WANDER 101: BACK TO BASICS

DESCRIPTION:

Need a break or an excuse to turn off the phone, but can only get away for a few days? Rejuvenate your spirit by getting back to basics, back to craft, back to nature during an unstructured immersive weekend retreat. In a summer camp experience, your design coach will encourage you to wander and challenge your creative conventions. For those with creative block, guided exercises will get you started or feel free to bring an unfinished project or dust off your sketch book or bring a fresh canvas to paint. Spend evenings communing with other participants over a good meal and improptu show and tell about your work, and stories around the campfire. Spend a full day as you wish, in the field watching the clouds or the birds, listening to the wind in the trees, wandering through the woods, or refresh your energy with a canoe ride.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Creative people interested in art, graphic design, writing, stories, photography, adventure, getting back to nature whether you have just started your career or are in the midst of an intense daily grind will commune together in this overnight back to craft opportunity.

 

PRICE INCLUDES:

Lodging – The residential facilities at Camp Wonder Wander are comfortable and cozy designed for multiple functions from workshops to group meals cooking together to huddling around the campfire or woodstove. The sleeping quarters are upscale dormitory where you will most likely have at least one roommate. Single rooms available on request for additional fee.

 

Food – at the camp will be included in the program fee, we will cook and clean together. Camp Wonder Wander's goal is to provide healthy meals using organic and local options as much as possible catering to all types of nutritional plans such as gluten free, paleo, pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan. If you aren't following a special diet you won't feel left out here. Special consideration will be given to food allergies or other food plans - please comment on this in your registration or send an email.

 

Coaching/Instruction – program fee includes gentle behind the scenes coordination and any potential instruction of guided exercises by Valerie Sloan, a professor of graphic design.

 

PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE:

Transportation – to and from the camp for arrival and departure is not included in the program fee. If you would like to be picked up in Nashville arrangements can me made for a minimal fee. Please make note of this in your registration for coordination.

 

Supplies – some items will be on hand such as magazines, but each participant should bring a sketchbook, writing utensils, a pencil sharpener, glue stick, scissors, and any other tool, medium, substrates of choice.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

Camp Wonder Wander engages people in wonderlost + wanderlust. Sessions are  designed for everyone to be creative. If you are interested in meeting and communing with new people, getting back to basics and rejuvenating your creative spirit, or just want the chance to turn off the phone to explore a new place and make a project or more that has no clients involved.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY:

No cancellation within 30 days, but may receive a credit of 75% payment towards future workshop. Cancellation prior to the 30 day window will incur a service fee of 10% of the registration.

SCHEDULE:

Friday night arrival by 6pm for evening meal and group introductions. Before retiring to the campfire a brief discussion and presentation of prompts for you to sleep on before starting the optional 24 hr project.

 

Saturday morning breakfast to start the day followed by some guided exercises with the rest of the day to use as you desire for your project. We'll come together again in the evening for a group meal and ask participants to assist in the preparation and cleanup.

 

Sunday morning before departure you will be able to share what you created and participate in an optional bookbinding exercise to pull your work together.
